Trimalleolar fractures are fractures of the fibula, medial malleolus and posterior malleoli and most often affect older women and younger men. These fractures are considered unstable and have generally been treated surgically with success despite the advanced age and sometimes multiple comorbidities of the patients. However, there is still some controversy concerning whether non-operative techniques, generally only reserved for high-risk patients, could have comparable outcomes to those treated surgically. If so, this may contribute to clinical decision-making in the future where a clinician may be able to choose a more cost-effective and less risky option for some patient populations. This study will consist of a retrospective chart review to compare demographics, rate of complications, patient-reported outcomes, demographics, and the degree of reduction and union based on radiographics.
