Breaking the Cycle IV: Military PTSD (MPTSD) Treatment Study
Clinical Trial ( IRB ) #: 10-118-2
Title: Breaking the Cycle IV: Military PTSD (MPTSD) Treatment Study
Principal Investigator: Dr. Julian Ford
Description: This is a randomized clinical trial comparing two psychotherapy interventions, Prolonged Exposure, (PE) versus Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET), designed to determine their efficacy in reducing PTSD severity and associated problems with anger, hostility, aggression, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. The secondary aim is to compare the efficacy of TARGET and PE on theory-based differential outcomes. Male military veterans suffering from PTSD after returning from military service in Afghanistan (Operation Emerging Freedom, OEF) and/or Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom, OIF) will be recruited for participation. The long-term goal of this project, which will be assessed in subsequent studies over time, is to reduce the likelihood of severe socio-legal problems including violence perpetration and criminal activity.
